San Pedro del Pinatar is situated on the Murcia, (Costa Blanca) coast about 50 km from the city of Murcia. It is 50 minutes from Alicante Airport and 15 minutes from San Javier (Murcia) Airport. The N332 passes through the town and the AP7 passes close by. Due to its fantastic location facing the Mar Menor and the wonderful climate it enjoys, it has grown from an agricultural stronghold into one of the main tourist destinations of Costa Blanca. This town was built during the Roman times and there have been some remains of Roman houses uncovered in the area. History, history, history.

The town itself is built along the coast and the main activities of the area take place on the promenade. The main attractions are the availability of water sports including sailing, scuba diving and surfing. There are many schools that offer lessons and equipment hire to get you started on your new hobby. We actually did our scuba course here.

The waters and mud banks along the coast are reputed to be therapeutic and offer cures for skin ailments and all sorts of aches and pains, Lo Pagan just beside San Pedro is the most famous region for people to indulge in the reputation that the mud has. San Pedro is very popular with the Spanish Tourist and the town swells during the month of August as Spaniards take their annual months holidays and come in droves to enjoy the climate and healthy waters of the San Pedro area. There are a number of museums to visit which celebrate the history of the region and a very pretty 17th Century Church St Peter’s which has been maintained in excellent condition and is worth a visit. San Pedro celebrates its patron saint St. Peter at a festival at the end of June.

Easter sees big celebrations for Santa Semana with festivals and festivities ongoing throughout the week. The modern four star Hotel Thalasia Costa de Murcia is a delightful place to stay in when visiting San Pedro. It provides fitness, spa and wellness centre with personal trainer as well as an indoor sea water swimming pool and hot tub. It comes complete with a paddle court and children’s play area and is within walking distance of all the amenities of San Pedro. San Pedro has an amazing sports facility called Pinatar Arena which has artificial football pitches, paddle courts, archery and a cracking gym and spa. It has different keep fit classes weekly including Pilates, Zumba, Spinning and running.
