Torre Pacheco is a large town set just off the AP7 heading south and is an inland setting. It is only 5 minutes from San Javier Airport (Murcia) and about 70 minutes from Alicante Airport. The train station connects the town to Cartagena and Murcia where you can spend the day exploring and enjoying the lovely roman architecture and the influence of the Moors who governed these cities many years ago. Actually the trains go to Madrid daily from here.
Torre Pacheco has a large town centre with a wide selection of delicious restaurants, bars and shops. The golf courses of La Serena, Roda,Mar Menor and La Torre are nearby and are in top condition. For those who like a little less exercise the town itself has a 9 hole municipal par 3 Pitch & Putt course full of quirky water hazards and bunkers, a favourite with all the family and you can celebrate victory in the small café with its views overlooking the pretty course. The street market is held on Saturday mornings and is a large market selling everything from vegetables and fruit, to shoes and clothing to toys and gizmos and gadgets, it is a fun day out and you can practise your haggling and your Spanish here, the marketers are always in good humour and ready to bargain.
One fabulous restaurant that I’d recommend is El Huerto Del Azafran. It is open for lunch and offers a superb choice of Mediterranean and Spanish dishes. It is frequented by the Spanish of the area, which is always an excellent recommendation for a restaurant. Here you will get imaginative dishes made with the freshest local ingredients. The staff are very friendly and happy to accommodate you if you have any particular dietary requirements. There are a good few more excellent café’s in the town and you will find the owners and staff very friendly and welcoming.
The wonderful Blue Flag beaches of the Mar Menor are a short drive away as is the therapeutic mud baths of Lo Pagan. Due to its mainly flat terrain Torre Pacheco is a fabulous destination for walkers and hikers, it does have one large hill called Cabezo Gordo which has some fabulous trees and shrubs and is a mecca for birdwatchers with a large variety of our feathered friends. The infrastructure of the town is good with plenty of choice of supermarkets, banks, petrol stations and retail outlets. There are annual festivals in October in honour of Our Lady of the Rosary and nobody does the festivities like the Spanish. A wonderful mix of dance, music and foods of the region. As you explore this area you will see many 19th century windmills, most are just a pretty shell at this stage but four are in perfect condition.
When we started selling Polaris World property in 2003, their head office was located in Torre Pacheco. Despite all that happened with Polaris World and their financial troubles, we have many wonderful memories of taking our clients who had just invested in golf property out for lunch. (and usually drinks!!)
New building stalled here when Polaris collapsed but our clients are again looking at new builds around Torre Pacheco telling us the good times ar e(almost) back in Torre Pacheco!!
